Dr. John Adams, a Kansas native, grew up in Wichita. Dr. Adams attended East High School in Wichita, graduating in 1965 at the age of 16. He finished high school a year early and went to Wichita State University where he obtained a BS in Biology in 1969, with minors in Chemistry and History. He met his wife Sherilyn in French class at Wichita State and they married in 1969. He was working on a MS in Microbiology and teaching laboratory microbiology to dental hygienists and nursing students until he was accepted at UMKC dental school and began studies to become a dentist at UMKC in 1971. He graduated from UKMC School of Dentistry school in December 1974, six months early. He was nominated for this honor by professors at the school who selected 12 students based on superior grades and outstanding clinical competence. Dr. Adams moved to Salina, Kansas December 1974, and began his dental practice in February 1975, moving to his current location at 909 E. Wayne in March 1977.
Dr. Adams has always had a passion for giving back and being involved in the community. He has been a leader in setting up volunteer dentistry for low income children and adults in Salina. He was a co-founder of Salina Cares dental referral program as well as organized three free sealant clinics that treated over 900 3rd graders in Salina schools. He was on the local arrangements committee for Kansas Mission of Mercy, the state dental organizations free clinic that is moved from city to city every six to twelve months. He has been extensively involved in community outreach programs including President of the Salina United Way, and Chairman of the Salina/Saline County Health department just to name a few. He also assisted in starting the Salina Head Start Program, and was on a committee that organized bringing Habitat for Humanity to Salina.
When he is not creating incrediable smiles, Dr. Adams enjoys spending quality time with his family. Dr. Adams and his wife Sherilyn were blessed with three children. Jonathan who lives in London and has a BS from Reed College in Portland Oregon and a PhD from University of Washington in Seattle. Amy who lives in Chicago with her younger sister Laura, and has a BS in economics from the University of Chicago and a MBA from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. Laura who has a MS from Purdue University in Management Engineering, and a MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Business. Dr. Adams also enjoys bicycling, walking, hiking, reading, computer research, beta testing, software development, and being active within the community when his schedule permits. He and his wife believe strongly in education and have provided scholarships to high school students in Salina through the USD 305 Education Foundation for nearly 20 years. He and his wife were one of the original founding contributors to the Greater Salina Community Foundation. They have given back to the Salina Community both time and financial resources to assist in helping Salina to be a great place to live and bring up a family.
Dr. Adams has a passion for dentistry and enjoys all aspects of dental procedures including cosmetics, restorative, implant, orthodontics, periodontal and surgery procedures. He was one of the first dentists in Salina to begin doing implants. He has helped many people with seemingly hopeless conditions of no teeth or jaw bones to restore, and regain their ability to eat and smile again through the wonders of modern dentistry and implants.
